There are different fixed prosthetic dental treatments that fall into cosmetic dentistry such as porcelain crown, porcelain bridges and porcelain veneers.

A porcelain dental crown (aka cap) is a covering that is made of ceramic and covers the entire tooth surface, restoring it to its original shape, size and color. A dental crown is most commonly used to protect and strengthen a tooth structure especially after root canal treatments where the majority of tooth structure is compromised. However, crowns—especially porcelain crowns—can also be used to change the appearance of teeth for cosmetic reasons.

Although there are several types of crowns such as full metal crowns and PFM crowns, porcelain crowns are the most popular nowadays, because this material resembles your natural tooth enamel very closely. Porcelain crowns are custom designed to match your teeth so nobody can tell you have a dental crown. They are durable dental options and will last many years if done properly, but like most dental restorations, they will eventually need to be replaced over time especially in heavy occlusions.

Indications for porcelain dental crowns:

•             Broken or fractured teeth

•             Cosmetic improvement

•             Fractured dental fillings

•             Large fillings when the filling alone can not stand the mastication forces

•             After root canal therapy when the tooth is very weak

Dental porcelain crowns in Woodbridge, Vaughan

Getting porcelain crowns usually requires two appointments, but it could be done in one session as well. At Milani Dental office in Vaughan, Your first appointment will include taking scans of your teeth using our intraoral scanner that will be used to create your custom crown at the lab. If you are getting your crown for cosmetic reasons, the dentist in Woodbridge might decide to make some changes on the provisional crown to achieve better results.

While the tooth is numb (if needed), the dentist in Vaughan will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and preparing the surface to make room for the crown. After finishing taking scans of your teeth, your temporary crown will be placed on the prepared tooth and your bite will be checked to ensure the temporary crown fits properly without any problems.

At your second appointment, your dentist in Maple will remove the temporary crown and your new crown will be carefully checked to ensure the fit, contacts and bite is accurate. At Milani Dental Care in Maple, Vaughan, You will be given instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits and check ups to check your new crown and make sure it is still performing well.

PORCELAIN FIXED BRIDGES IN WOODBRIDGE

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) prosthesis and is indicated when one or two teeth are missing.

There are several types of dental bridges. Porcelain fixed bridges are made of dental ceramic and are the most popular because they are very close to your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists of three crowns attached together, two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth close to the missing tooth space (abutment teeth) and are attached to the pontic (artificial tooth) that will fill the gap created by your missing teeth.

Indications for a fixed dental bridge:

•             Fill space of one or two missing teeth if dental implants are not indicated

•             Maintain facial height

•             Prevent remaining teeth from shifting and moving

•             Enhance mastication and speaking ability

•             Restore or enhance your smile

What does getting a fixed bridge involve?

Getting a bridge usually requires two visits but it might need more visits in some cases. Your dentist in Woodbridge will numb your teeth and make sure you are comfortable, then will prepare the abutment teeth in order to make room for the dental bridge. Next, at our dental office in Woodbridge, Vaughan we will scan your teeth using our intraoral scanner. Then we will send the scans to a dental laboratory in the GTA where the dental bridge will be fabricated. In addition, a temporary bridge will be made and delivered until your next appointment.

At the second appointment, your permanent dental bridge will be carefully examined, adjusted, and cemented.

Porcelain Veneers are another type of ceramic dental restorations that are widely used to enhance the esthetics of the front teeth.

At Marble Dental clinic in Woodbridge, we offer porcelain veneers which are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped ceramic that can be custom shaped and colored to match your teeth by a professional dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the front teeth to achieve a beautiful and attractive smile.

Porcelain veneers are very durable and will last many years if made properly.

Indications for porcelain veneers:

•             Misshapen teeth

•             discolored or stained teeth that can not be treated with dental bleaching or other treatments

•             Front Teeth that are too small (like peg shaped laterals)

•             Unwanted or uneven spaces on the front teeth

•             Worn or chipped teeth (in some cases)

At Marble Dental Office in Maple, Vaughan getting porcelain veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process. First, the teeth are prepared by lightly preparing the surface, reducing it slightly to allow for the thickness of the porcelain veneer which could be around0.3mm to 0.9mm on the lip side. A scan of the teeth is taken at our dental office in Vaughan and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and your dentist in Woodbridge.

On the second visit, after try-in the veneers, bonding cement is placed between the tooth and veneer to glue it permanently on the tooth surface.
